I Failed
05.11.08 (10:19 pm)   [edit]

I'm not sure why I get my hopes up, anymore.  Afterall, this past year has been full of disappointments, when it comes to the job search, so why should right now be any different?

This coming Thursday, I was supposed to leave to begin working my new job.  Not really crazy about the idea of leaving my family for 3 1/2 weeks, I accepted this task to start bringing in some money.  Maybe even have a little money set aside for when I came back to pick my family up and bring them to our new home.

For some reason, I woke up, this morning, with a very bitter taste in my mouth.  Something just isn't quite right.

I e-mailed my soon-to-be boss, asking for a verification that there is, indeed, work waiting for me when I arrive on Thursday.  It was mentioned that the main job I will eventually be doing is not quite ready, but there will be some interim work that I can do to carry me over.  But, nothing was ever presented in writing.  No details were spoken.

That e-mail has been read - and ignored.  So has the e-mail I sent a week ago asking the same question.

My suspicions raised, I called a mutual friend.  This friend confirmed that there is currently nothing for me to do.  No real work that needs to be done.  No paycheck to be had.  All of my hopes for nothing.

My home is up for foreclosure, soon.  Perhaps even this week.  My family has nowhere to go.  I have failed them.  The people that mean the most to me out of any other people in this vast universe... and I have failed them.

I have no idea what to do, now.

I have always found that when one door closes, another one opens! Don't give up hope, or allow despair to creep in! that will doom you!! Something is going to turn up, but regardless what happens, you can and will get through it, and come out a lot stronger person because of it!! and better able to help your fellow man, when down the road you meet someone who really needs your experience!!! I'm praying for you!!! Hang in there!!!!

I appreciate that. There's an opportunity that has been presented to us... this has been some 2 years, now. This opportunity has met with problems with the company's lawyer sitting on business plans without presenting it to the key investors required to get the business going. The company's owner has gained control of the plan and has it in the hands of investors who has expressed interest. Once this company is funded, the salary will be worth my trouble.

I've already decided that, once I get my finances back in order, I am going to use a portion of any extra income I come across to help those who is going through what my family is going through... starting with my own parents.

The big question is - how much longer do I have to wait? I'm at my breaking point, I think.

Your prayers are certainly appreciated and very welcome!

Buddy, I've been there. You haven't failed. this particular opportunity has not worked out, at least not at this time. You fail when you quit, when you give up. I'm not big for pep talks, but I think what you do is use every fiber of your energy in a relentless effort to do whatever you must do to meet your needs. I'm a pastor- that's my training, career, and what I think I do best. Sometimes I've been successful in said endeavor, and sometimes things have not worked out. Along the way I've worked as a security guard, portrait salesman, temporary retail clerk in a jewelry store (I worked up to full-time), graveyard-shift security at an auto plant and at a hosiery mill, and I've sold portraits as a traveling salesman for a church-directory company. Not exactly my preferences, but things I had to do at the time. Some of these jobs were bruising to my ego, and didn't pay what I thought I was worth- but they were necessary. All along I never lost my dream or my drive. That's the key, I think. I found work as I made a relentless pursuit- more than a full-time job- of finding work. I used networking, classified ads, local and state employment agencies, sent out resumes, and even found helpful the local "shopper" type classifieds. Now I'm not presuming you haven't done these things. Keep doing, keep trying, and I can pretty well guarantee you that you will not "fail"- you'll survive, and then one day you will prosper. And, as corny as it sounds, the process will turn out to be a wonderful growing experience.

Reply to: sebastianjoshua, LadyG, 14u2nv2 (hey there! :) ), PastorDave, AuntConi:

First off, thanks for all of your comments and encouragement. After having your heart set on something for so long (this Connecticut job has been in the works for 5 months, now), it was a blow to find out it was all a bunch of brown sugar (or anything else that begins with BS, for that matter).

Yes, this entire period is pretty bleak and I'm at my wit's end with trying to find a job. But, these past few days have helped me put a few things in perspective. The job search goes on. But, I'm coming up with ways that I can make some money with a newly found hobby... photography! If I can turn this hobby into something that earns me some cash, then all prayers have been answered.

There will be light at the end of the tunnel. I just wish I knew how long this tunnel is going to be!
