But I've been told before the same thing, that it sounded "obnoxious" .. But eh. Takes a Hell lot of people to make one world. posted by: barnabus1 (reply) post date: 03.04.09 (7:27 pm) It's not like you're not going to thank them again after the fact!! It's looney tunes for that guy!! posted by: ruined (reply) post date: 03.05.09 (5:48 am) LADYG - Glad to see I'm not the only one to think this! MARIANNEL - So, you've been told the same thing? I can't even see how thanking somebody in advance might be considered "rude". I was always taught that saying "thank you" was the polite thing to do. Hmmm... BARNABUS1 - Exactly! Even though he gave me the tongue lashing for saying "thank you in advance", I did thank him for his help. Like MARIANNEL said... it takes all kinds. posted by: surrogate (reply) post date: 03.05.09 (8:03 am) Yeah, but remember he's a tech guy. I'm not making a blanket statement here, buy I have noticed that MANY techies don't do so well at normal social interactions. Lots of them seem to have their own strange takes on the way people ought to relate to one another. -No, thanking someone in advance is not rude - or at least it isn't to me. But then you should know that I'm so weird as to think saying "oh God" isn't in the least profane, and yet I've been told it is by more than one tBlogger of late. posted by: alaskawildflowers (reply) post date: 03.05.09 (9:35 am) Good manners are so seldom appreciated-- until they're lacking! I don't think it's rude-- and on a separate track, one of the common acronyms "tips" is thought to have originally stood for "To Insure Prompt Service" which is kinda the same thing as thanking someone in advance. Carry on with your thanking-- the world could use more of it-- in advance, or after. :-) posted by: PirateGirl (reply) post date: 03.05.09 (10:49 am) Well guess that make me one of the rudest people around - I do it all the time - but of course, I be a Pirate! Arrrr! LOL! hang in there ruined - I agree with Alaska posted by: PastorDave (reply) post date: 03.05.09 (2:24 pm) Seems to me, if you thank someone in advance AND after the fact, you have all your bases covered. Well, I guess you could be criticized for not saying "thanks" in the middle. Thanks in advance for your reply. posted by: PirateGirl (reply) post date: 03.05.09 (2:31 pm) Reply to: PastorDave LOL! ;D posted by: sweetvampiress (reply) post date: 03.08.09 (11:18 am) Absolutely not!! That guy is just a jerk, and is probably just one of those blokes that has to take other side of things and argue. BTW loved your response. posted by: ruined (reply) post date: 03.28.09 (6:24 am) Reply to: surrogate IT workers are a unique bunch. It never ceased to amaze me, when I worked in the world of IT, that people would always comment on how "nice" and "socially adjusted" I was. It made me a little uncomfortable that people would say that. Until, that is, I interacted with the typical "IT worker". Now, I understand their comments... heh heh heh posted by: ruined (reply) post date: 03.28.09 (6:26 am) Reply to: alaskawildflowers Interesting "TIPS"... =] I decided that this guy was simply a lunatic, so I continue thanking people in advance when on that particular forum (or any other I happen to be on, as well). I think thanking people in advance shows appreciation that they took the time to actually read your question. Of course, I could be wrong... posted by: ruined (reply) post date: 03.28.09 (6:27 am) Reply to: PastorDave Which I do make sure to do - thank them after the fact, as well. I guess I'm just too free with my "thank yous" and that acts to just negate the importance of them. Or something... And you are very welcome... in advance! heh heh heh posted by: ruined (reply) post date: 03.28.09 (6:29 am) Reply to: sweetvampiress That is likely to be the case. Probably some guy that is new to the Info Tech scene. I find that the new guys seem to have an ego the size of the Wall of China to compensate for the fact that they are lacking in complete knowledge of their field. So, that teaches me to thank a newbie in advance! =] |
